So if you’ve been following me (which I advise that you do), you know that recently I had the task of getting several interns to work for me. So I put out an announcement that goes out to basically every student at the university to spread word of the internship opportunity, which was very effective by the way. However it does have my name attached to it, and one kid took advantage of this. Bear with me while I explain. So this kid goes and requests me to be his friend on Facebook. I immediately recognize him from one of my grad classes, so I accept. Later the same night, he messages me and starts asking about the internship. I give him some details and try to hurry off because he is kind of getting on my nerves. So I try to leave by saying something like “alright man later. see you in class tomorrow.” To which he responds “What class?” Wow, so obviously the moron didn’t even know I was in a class of his. So he just randomly asked me to be his friend on Facebook just so he could chat with me on it later to ask me about the internship, instead of asking me through email like every normal person did and the announcement instructed. But there’s more…

So he has already stated that he is no longer interested in this internship, so that isn’t an issue anymore. But he continues talking to me on Facebook. I don’t like this kid. He is annoying. Why don’t annoying people ever catch onto this? Every time I try to brush him off. You would think he would catch on. Then he brings up the internship again. Says he’s got a friend who “really wants an internship” and “will work for free.” Cool. So tell her to email me like everyone, ok bud? But he insists that I talk to her on Yahoo messenger or AOL messenger. It’s around 10 at night during this convo. I’m doing schoolwork. I’m not at work anymore. Who wants to deal with work stuff when are no longer at work? No one does. I tell him for probably the 5^th time, “just tell her to email me.” He disappointingly says that he will, but reconfirms that she “really wanted to talk to me about it tonight.” Whatever lameass.

So she never does actually email me. But then, TONIGHT, he’s back at it again. Chatting it up with me on Facebook about his friend. I just about lose it. Even though I’m trying not to get into work-related stuff, I still try to maintain professionalism and keep cool and not lash out at him. But he’s just not getting it. And at the same time I feel bad for his friend, but this dude is ruining it for her. I now can’t stand her even though I don’t even know her or know who she is. HE has made her annoying to me. Why doesn’t the kid just get that I don’t want to get into this stupid stuff when I’m at home? Why is it so damn hard to just email me like every damn undergrad did? Someone calm me please. Reassure me that the human race isn’t really this stupid.

New “Hills”

I ran across this new version of the show “The Hills.” I think it’s called “The Hills: According to me.” Gotta tell ya, I think it’s hilarious. And it’s such a great idea. I mean who does the original show appeal to? Girls. Middle school girls, high school girls, college girls, whatever. But now what target do they hit with this new version? Guys. Because they think it’s funny to make fun of the show. In fact, it doesn’t just appeal to guys. It even appeals to those girls that never liked the show. So you’ve got this show that appeals to one market, then the same show has a version of itself that appeals to the opposite market. Ingenious.

Microsoft vs. Apple

Is anyone else loving this advertising battle between Microsoft and Apple? This is great. Though in response to Apple’s most recent ad, I’ve got to say that I actually feel that Apple probably spends more on advertising than Microsoft, contrary to what the ad implies.

Big assignment due tomorrow. Of course I procrastinated and now am forced to do 90% of it the night before it’s due. And naturally I can’t help but be distracted by every little temptation around. When am I supposed to grow out of this, anyways?

Tea

Ever tried tea before? Not iced tea, but hot tea. Like Green tea or White tea? Oh even Black tea is good. I mean it sounds like an old person thing to do. Maybe it’s even kind of a hippy thing to do. But it’s good stuff. Any of it is. It’s a great thing to put in your body to start your day off. It’s even a great thing to end your day with. Relaxing stuff.

I took a leave of absence for a few days, not really intentionally, I just got kind of busy. I actually have some interns now. Pretty crazy. I don’t know what to do with these guys. It’s great to see all the enthusiastic applicants I got, I can’t disappoint them now! I mean one of these guys is at least 12 years older than me. I just graduated a few months ago! But regardless, I’m an authoritative figure all of a sudden. When and how did I become this? WILD. And no, I don’t mean the Minnesota hockey team.

Movie Talk

You know what is a really underrated movie? And I call it underrated because I had never even heard of it until this summer when I watched it. But Young Guns. It really is a pretty cool movie. And what helps me further realize how underrated it is was the fact that when it first started I was almost sure I wasn’t going to like it. I thought it looked like it would be stupid, but by the end of it I thought it was awesome. That’s how you really know when a movie is good, you start off thinking it is going to suck but the coolness of the movie overtakes your bias by the end. Apparently there’s a Young Guns 2, but surely the sequel can’t top the first one.

Post-Lunch Attitude

As always I returned to work from my lunch break feeling groggy. Happens every time. I’m not sure why. Is it because I fill myself up too much when I eat lunch? That’s my best guess. But damn it makes me so tired and completely free of motivation… UNTIL I down this unreal Rockstar drink. I thought people using energy drinks like this was just a fad at first -and it probably still is for most- but I’ve got to tell you, this stuff is great. I down one of these bad boys and I feel like I can do anything. My mind races, I feel like I can be the smartest, most athletic, and just downright coolest person on the planet. When I’m full of this liquid there’s not even a doubt in my mind that I could make it in the NFL, any further and I think you could classify this drink as a hallucinogen. And the best part is that you can’t even ridicule me for wasting money on it (since these drinks do get kind of expensive.) I got a ton of this stuff for free. It will easily last me the rest of the school year.

On another note, one of my “superiors” today told me he’d like for me to get 6 interns to work with me. Six Interns?! I was just an intern at another place as recent at 5 months ago, and now I get my own? I mean this is great, now I’ll never have to do work. I hardly have enough of a workload for just myself. Now I get to pass it along to 6 unpaid workers? As the Fresh Prince would say… CHING CHING
